What Is ScarLine Rx®

Finally, an FDA-approved, convenient, clinically proven treatment to reduce scars and relieve the discomfort of healing injuries is available over the counter. ScarLine Rx® is the only pure medical grade silicone gel sheeting that gently adheres to the skin to prevent and reduce scarring by providing a protective barrier to (close) occlude and hydrate the skin. The natural components in the silicone gel sheets balance the skin's complex cellular physiology to promote the scar healing process.

Scars are formed of a net of protein-based collagen fibers that work to mend and replace damaged skin. A scar typically forms when an injury to the skin is healed. The type of scar formed depends on the person's age, heredity, gender, nutrition, and the severity of the underlying cause. Most normal scars are flat and become less noticeable with age.

Types of Scarring

Keloid scars. These scars are the result of an overly aggressive healing process and most often extend beyond the original injury. Keloid scars most often occur in people with dark pigmented skin.

Contracture scars. If your skin has been burned, you may have a contracture scar, which causes tightening of skin that can impair your ability to move; additionally, this type of scar may go deeper to affect muscles and nerves.

Hypertrophic scars. Raised and red scars that are similar to keloids, but do not extend beyond the original injury site.

Acne scars. If you've had severe acne, you probably have the scars to prove it. There are many types of acne scars, ranging from deep pits to scars that are angular or wavelike in appearance.

How to Use

To use ScarLine Rx®, simply place the thin, skin-like silicone gel patch over your scar and wear it up to 12 hours a day, for up to 3 months or until satisfied with the appearance of your scar. Most people begin to see improvement within three to four weeks. ScarLine Rx® is latex-free, adhesive-free and dermatologically tested. The effectiveness of silicone as a therapy to reduce scars has been proven in more than 50 clinical trials and silicone gel sheeting is recommended as the gold standard in scar reduction therapy by The International Advisory Panel on Scar Management.
